Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez earns a unanimous decision victory over Israel Gonzalez.

Serving as the co-main to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2) vs. Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin (42-1-1), WBC super flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (16-0) faced the veteran, battle-tested Israel Gonzalez (28-4-1) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. In what was a very close fight, two of the judges didn’t see it that way (118-109 & 117-110), but the one judge did (114-113) giving Rodriguez the unanimous decision victory.

In the first round, Rodriguez started off early in the round by pumping that right jab and feinting. Gonzalez was countering with a right uppercut from mid-range, which he had some success with throughout the round. Rodriguez started to

Canelo closes GGG trilogy with decisive victory

Canelo closes GGG trilogy with decisive victory

Sep 18, 2022

LAS VEGAS — After the final bell and 36 rounds together, Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin shared a long embrace, apparently ending a feud that grew personal over the five years since they first met in the ring.

In yet another close fight, Alvarez retained his undisputed super middleweight championship Saturday at T-Mobile Arena with a unanimous decision victory over his longtime rival in a trilogy bout before a raucous pro-Alvarez crowd on Mexican Independence Day Weekend.

Two judges scored it 115-113 for Alvarez, while a third judge had it 116-112.

Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) started strong while Golovkin worked his jab and barely threw his powerful right hand, the punch that launched him to stardom and a legendary middleweight championship run. Finally, down the stretch, Golovkin found his footing and won four of the final five rounds on two scorecards, but it was too little, too late.

While they hugged, Alvarez told Golovkin, “Thank you so much, my friend. Thank you for everything. We give the fans three good fights.”

The pleasantries were in stark contrast to the prefight buildup, when Alvarez vowed to end Golovkin’s career with a knockout victory. He even called Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) a phony who pretends to be a nice person.

Now, with the dust settled and the rivalry concluded, the fighters head in separate directions.

Alvarez, who owns all four 168-pound belts, could pursue a rematch with Dmitry Bivol next year to even the score from May, when Bivol routed him via decision.

However, an injury to his left wrist coul

Saul Alvarez is a one-namer.

In fact, thanks to winning performances in championship-level fights since age 20, the cinnamon-haired Mexican had become the boxing equivalent of Prince, Madonna and Sting.

But after a desultory loss to Dmitry Bivol in May, Canelo was one more off-key evening away from being redubbed as the ring’s version of Nickelback.

So, it’s no surprise that the conqueror of four weight classes—and reigning kingpin at 168 pounds—was determined to put on a memorable show Saturday night against Gennadiy Golovkin.

The early reviews suggest he did just that. And then some.

Now 32, Alvarez sang a razor line at his two-time rival’s expense, beating the older man to the punch early and maintaining the pace late on the way to a clear unanimous decision. It instantly became the least-debated result in a trilogy spanning exactly five years and two days.

The two men fought to a split-decision draw in their first go-round in September 2017, then returned a year later to engage in 12 more nip-and-tuck rounds that ended with a majority nod for Alvarez.

Many boxing observers, not to mention Golovkin himself, insisted it could just as easily have been 2-0 in the Kazakh’s direction. This only added fuel to the fire for a third encounter in which pre-fight handshakes and pleasant greetings were eschewed for cold stares and promises of violent mayhem.

And while it wasn’t exactly Gatti-Ward by the latter measure, Rounds 25-36 were still every bit as compelling as Rounds 1-24 had been for the pound-for-pound stalwarts whose power boxing skill sets, thirsts for

Capping off their trilogy in disappointing fashion on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez defeated Gennadiy Golovkin for the second time to retain the

WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight championships.

Canelo dominated the fight from the opening bell en route to a unanimous-decision win. Two judges scored the bout 115-113, and the third had it 116-112, though it didn’t even seem that close.

Golovkin’s performance was roundly criticized, with many observers noting it looked like he was aging before our eyes.

Canelo Alvarez makes Gennadiy Golovkin look his age, wins trilogy by unanimous decision

Rounds 25 through 36 looked nothing like one to 24.

Canelo Alvarez, who received all his could handle in two previous fights with Gennadiy Golovkin, made Triple-G look all of his 40 years for most of the fight en route to winning a unanimous decision at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The bizarre scores were 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113, which didn’t reflect what happened in the ring. Boxing Junkie scored it 119-111 for Alvarez, 11 rounds to one.

Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) was a significant underdog for a reason, and not just because he’s eight years older than his prime rival. The Kazakhstani fighter also moved up from 160 pounds to 168 to face a pound-for-pound great.

Thus, the result was predicta

Read on if you want to know how to live stream Canelo vs Golovkin 3 online from anywhere.

The two bitter rivals played out a draw in their first meeting back in 2017 – a judges verdict that many boxing fans felt should have gone in Kazakh star Golovkin’s favour.

Canelo vs Golovkin 3 at a glance

This title fight takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, September 17.

Canelo and Golovkins ring walks are expected around 11pm ET / 8pm PT / 4am BST / 1pm AEST.

Canelo then scored a majority decision in their second showdown the following year,  a similarly contentious decision, with many fight fans feeling GGG had done enough to at least secure a draw or better.

Mexican star Canelo will be putting his super middleweight titles on the line for this fight, meaning Golovkin moves up a weight for the first time in his career.

Canelo, 32 suffered just the second defeat of his illustrious career in his last appearance in the ring back in May, after making an unsuccessful weight switch to 175lb back in May against Dmitry Bivol, while Golovkin’s last fight was a TKO victory in Japan over Ryota Murata back in April.

This entire event is available exclusively on DAZN, excluding Mexico. However, depending on where you live that will mean a different viewing time and cost to watch. Read on to see how to watch Canelo vs Golovkin 3 online.
