Prior to the press conference scuffle, Dana White spoke to reporters in Baku about promoting Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford. The UFC boss expressed his excitement for the promotional work ahead.

With HE Alalshikh also expressing frustration over what he calls “Tom and Jerry fights,” it’s clear that expectations are sky-high for the September 13 showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Despite Canelo being the two-time undisputed super middleweight champion, Bud is making a bold move by jumping up two weight classes without any sort of rehydration clause in place.

Ring Magazine shared the 37-year-old’s perspective regarding the risky move in an Instagram post captioned: “Terence Crawford doesn’t want any stipulations to discredit a potential win vs Canelo Alvarez 😤.” Although Crawford is the naturally smaller man, he revealed there will be no weight restrictions on Canelo Alvarez on fight night. Speaking to reporters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Omaha native explained his decision to forgo catchweight or rehydration clauses. His reason? “Because I want him at his best.”

CANELO ALVAREZ and Terence Crawford have finally CONFIRMED their Las Vegas super-fight – which will air on Netflix.

The pair will collide for the undisputed super-middleweight world titles – with UFC boss Dana White promoting the blockbuster.

White said: “Turki wants to make the biggest fights that the fans want to see in boxing and this is right up my alley.

“Are you kidding me that the first boxing fight I’m going to get to promote is Canelo vs. Crawford? It’s literally a once in a lifetime fight.

“Live on Saturday, September 13, streaming globally on Netflix, two of the GREATEST boxers in the sport will meet in a historic fight from Las Vegas.”

Canelo laboured past William Scull in Saudi Arabia in May to win back his vacated IBF title and become undisputed super-middleweight king again.

And shortly after, unbeaten four-division champion Crawford stepped into the ring to face off with Canelo – flanked by Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh.

The bout was first set for Friday, September 12 in Vegas with Netflix to air the fight and White promoting.

TKO Holdings – who own the UFC and WWE – signed a multi-year partnership this year to establish a boxing promotion alongside Alalshikh.

As well as a UFC-style boxing league, two super-fights were set to be promoted by TKO and White every year.

And Canelo’s blockbuster against Crawford was always due to kickstart the partnership.

But then the cracks began to appear.

At one point, it seemed White and Netflix were OUT of the picture after Alalshikh said the fight would be promoted by Saudi-based Sela on pay-per-view.

The biggest boxing bout of the year is set to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13.

Dana White was originally scheduled to promote the event, but he was replaced due to a clash with UFC 320, due to take place at Arena Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico, on the same night.

However, the third annual Noche UFC show was relocated and downgraded during UFC Vegas 107.

Noche UFC 3 change announced

For the past few weeks, speculation about UFC 320 has been rife due to an issue with its venue.

Fans feared the event could be hit with another huge setback following the Canelo vs. Crawford date change.

On Saturday night, those concerns were proven right as the UFC announced the show had been moved to San Antonio, Texas, and downgraded to a Fight Night card.

Mexican boxing legend Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be looking to unify the super middleweight titles this weekend, when he squares off with IBF champion William Scull in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh.

Alvarez, 34, brings a record of 62-2-2 with 39 knockouts into what promises to be a high-stakes clash, as he continues his tradition of fighting during the Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Canelo is coming off a punishing unanimous decision over Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas in September.
