Saul “Canelo” Alvarez faces Jaime Munguia live on pay-per-view from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 5 (AEST). The all-Mexican showdown, held on Cinco de Mayo weekend, features the undisputed super middleweight champion up against the unbeaten former world champion.

At the kickoff press conference held in Los Angeles, the fighters previewed their bout and went face to face for the first time.

Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) targets his fourth straight victory, following his win by unanimous decision against Jermell Charlo last time out in December 2023. The 33-year-old native of Guadalajara, Jalisco defends his 168-pound title for the fourth time.

Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) brings to the ring his undisputed super middleweight title and makes the fourth defence of his WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO belts. In his previous outing last September at the same venue, the 33-year-old native of Guadalajara, Jalisco defeated Jermell Charlo by unanimous decision.

Canelo Alvarez and Premier Boxing Champions are discussing a reunion, sources told ESPN, after the sides split last week with two fights remaining on a three-fight deal signed in June.

Alvarez, boxing’s top star, is in talks with PBC about a May 4 pay-per-view fight vs. fellow Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia in Las Vegas, sources said.

Alvarez, ESPN’s No. 4 pound-for-pound boxer, was lined up for an undisputed super middleweight championship defense against Jermall Charlo in May. However, Alvarez and PBC couldn’t agree to terms for the matchup, which allowed him contractually to explore other options.

Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) discussed a return to streaming service DAZN for bouts against Munguia and Edgar Berlanga this year, but when those talks stalled, the champion returned to the table with PBC, sources said.

But shortly after, Paul took it a step further, piecing up Bourland in the face and making the former Golden Gloves champion dazed.

Bourland couldn’t even return with any jabs, going in straight self-defense mode. But it wasn’t enough.

Trapping him in the corner, Paul threw a bunch of haymakers, and the referee called it a night. The fight lasted just two minutes and 37 seconds.

“I wanted it to be a little longer to give the fans some more time,” he admitted post-fight.

Jake Paul knocked out Ryan Bourland with ease on Saturday night in Puerto Rico and immediately called out Canelo Alvarez.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer emerged with a record of 9-1 after his first ten pro fights, having only lost to Tommy Fury in the boxing ring to date.

The fight began with an aggressive approach from Bourland as he took centre ring and attempted a few combinations within the first minute.

Paul avoided these with relative ease though and fired back with some nice body shots.

With a minute to go in round one, Paul staggered Bourland with a series of shots which had him tottering around the ring.

Bourland did well to stay on his feet initially, but this did not last long.

With 20 seconds remaining, Paul poured more pressure on and trapped his opponent in the corner.

He collapsed to the canvas after being nailed by several more punches and the referee instantly waved the fight off.

“I wanted it to be a little bit longer,” Paul reacted, “To give the fans a little bit more time.

“But I’m just so happy to be here in Puerto Rico, you guys show a lot of love.

“I couldn’t have done it without my team.

“A little bit of shake and bake, dodged his punches, then put his sorry ass on the floor.

“He was supposed to give it to me, right? He had 19 fights, was super experienced, so I guess we’ve got to step it up even more.

“I’m ready. This is my life now, I’m on my road to world champion.”
