Canelo Alvarez signs four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, nixing Jake Paul bout
February 7, 2025 6:15 am ET
Turki Alalshikh has gotten Canelo Alvarez on board.
Late Thursday, a report from ESPN emerged claiming Alvarez and Jake Paul were finalizing a deal to box May 3 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in a cruiserweight bout expected to stream on Netflix.
However, in an 11th-hour swerve, Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced Alvarez has instead signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. The deal is expected to have Alvarez box in Saudi Arabia in May, then take on super welterweight champion Terence Crawford in September at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Alalshikh hinted at Alvarez vs. Crawford happening in September by calling it “the biggest fight in the history of boxing.”

Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford reportedly back on, Alvarez vs. Jake Paul Netflix boxing match fizzles
Canelo Alvarez is at the center of some major boxing drama, with the end result hopefully a highly anticipated fight with Terence Crawford.
A superfight between Alvarez (62-2-2) and Crawford (41-0) appears to be back on, after a report emerged Thursday from The Ring Magazine—owned by Riyadh Season head Turki Alalshikh—that the bout was no longer happening. Making matters more confusing, ESPN later reported that Alvarez would instead fight influencer boxer Jake Paul (11-1) in a bout to be streamed on Netflix on May 3, a report that was seemingly corroborated by The Ring.
However, late Thursday evening, Alalshikh announced that Alvarez had instead signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, and that Alvarez would fight in May for that promotion and not be involved with Paul or Netflix. Part of Alalshikh’s announcement was that the second fight on Alvarez’s contract will see him step into the ring with Crawford.

Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez break their silences as Jake Paul fight talks break down
Terence Crawford has taken to social media for the first time since landing one of the biggest fights of the year.
Until late last night, it seemed that a deal was done for Jake Paul and Canelo Alvarez to meet in a Cinco de Mayo showdown. But at the eleventh hour, boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh made a new deal happen that would secure the super-middleweight champion’s future for the next four fights.
Instead of facing Paul in May, Alvarez will now take a tune-up fight in Riyadh before heading to Las Vegas in September to face pound-for-pound number one Crawford. He will then fight twice more in 2026 as part of a four-fight deal, leaving Paul in the cold in his search for a major fight.

Terence Crawford snipes Canelo Alvarez fight from Jake Paul
As recently as a few hours ago, it was beginning to look as though Canelo Alvarez was going to make his long-awaited move to cruiserweight to face Jake Paul in an outlandish clash. The social media star has been calling for the fight for years, and it looked as though Netflix were going to land the fight.
However, as with everything else in boxing over the past few years, Turki Alalshikh had the final say. He has jumped in with a massive four-fight offer that will take the iconic multiple-weight champion to Riyadh th
KSI taunts Jake Paul over last-second Canelo Alvarez fight cancellation
The influencer boxing scene is slowly taking over.
Jake Paul was reportedly in talks with Team Canelo about organizing a potential super fight. However, Turki Alalshikh revealed a four-fight deal for Canelo with Riyadh Season, which could lay all talks of him fighting Paul to rest.
Fan sentiment was at an all-time low following Paul-Tyson since Paul took a near-60-year-old Tyson to the final bell in a lackluster fight. The only allure now for another Paul success is for him to take on a legitimate challenge. This could culminate in a Canelo fight, but with Alalshikh’s announcement, Paul is subject to scrutiny from his peers.

REPORT | Canelo Alvarez vs. Jake Paul boxing match agreed to for Cinco De Mayo
According to a recent report, Canelo Alvarez and Jake Paul will meet in the boxing ring later this year.
‘The Problem Child’ hasn’t been seen since his boxing match against Mike Tyson in November. Back for the first time since knocking out BKFC Mike Perry in July, Jake Paul met ‘Iron Mike’. The bout was Tyson’s first professional fight since 2005 when he retired following a stoppage loss to journeyman Kevin McBride.
Ultimately, the former heavyweight champion gassed out after just a few rounds. Jake Paul wound up outboxing the 58-year-old across eight rounds, scoring a unanimous decision win over Tyson. Despite a tease that he would face his brother, Logan Paul next, it seems that the influencer-turned-boxer will instead meet Canelo Alvarez.
As first reported by longtime boxing journalist Julius Julianis, Jake Paul vs. Canelo Alvarez has been agreed to for Cinco De Mayo. While no location has been revealed for the bout, it’ll likely take place in Las Vegas given the Mexican superstar’s track record. As of now, it’s unknown what weight the fight will take place at as well.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford deal finalized, megafight set for September in Las Vegas
Champions Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will meet in a boxing ring later this year in Las Vegas.
It’s not exactly a secret that the two champions have been in discussions to fight for a few months now. Following a knockout win over Errol Spence Jr. in the summer of 2023, Terence Crawford called out Canelo Alvarez. At the time, ‘Bud’ was the undisputed welterweight champion who would need to climb three weight classes for the fight.
At first, the super-middleweight champion shut down the callout. Last year, Canelo Alvarez decided not to fight Terence Crawford or David Benavidez, instead scoring wins over Jaime Munguia and Edgar Berlanga. In the meantime, ‘Bud’ moved up in weight once again, earning WBA and WBO interim gold with a decision win over Israil Madrimov in August.
Over the last few months, rumors have been revived regarding a potential Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight. Saudi boxing promoter Turki Alalshikh has met with both men i
