There is no love lost between Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya.
Alvarez, the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion, was once in a partnership with De La Hoya, an International Boxing Hall of Famer. Things quickly deteriorated between the two sides, leading to a nasty split. Canelo is currently signed to Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions promotion, but he had fights under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

Once-beaten Mielnicki Jr (17-1, 12 KOs) is riding a nine-fight winning streak. The 21-year-old native of Belleville, New Jersey stopped Salim Larbi in the first round last time out in December 2023.
“I’m having a great training camp down in Houston and my team and I are prepared for the best version of Ronald Cruz on May 4,” Vito Mielnic
Ahead of his fight on Saturday against Golden Boy Promotions’ Jaime Munguia, super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez took aim at his opponent’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya.
“He’s a f–king assh–e. That’s what I say. He’s a f–king assh–e. He tries to get attention for him, not Munguia. He’s a f–king assh–e. He steals [from his] fighters. F–king p—y. Motherf–ker,” Álvarez said of De La Hoya during a pre-fight press conference on Wednesday (h/t TMZ).

“This is going to be a great Mexican war,” Canelo Alvarez said at the final pre-fight press conference. “Munguia and I both come to win, but I am going to win and win decisively. The fans are really going to enjoy Saturday night and I’m proud to make history with two Mexican fighters fighting for all four belts.”

Jaime Munguia: Inside the ring, that respect goes out the window

“Canelo has a great deal of experience and has faced great fighters. I may not have the same resume, but I have youth on my side. I’m going to showcase my capabilities on Saturday night.”

Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez has given challenger Jaime Munguia nothing but respect in the lead-up to their May 4 clash.
But there was plenty of vitriol between the Mexican superstar and his former promoter Oscar De La Hoya at the final pre-bout press conference Wednesday.
Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) spent most of his professional career under the Golden Boy Promotions banner, transitioning from a bright young prospect to boxing’s biggest attraction. But after becoming a multi-weight world champion, Canelo parted ways with De La Hoya’s company in 2020 and aligned himself with both Matchroom Boxing and the PBC.
It was a messy split, and the subsequent years have done nothing to quell the angst between fighter and former promoter.
“I have nothing but respect for Canelo Alvarez as a fighter; his record and abilities speak for themselves,” De La Hoya told the assembled media in Las Vegas. “But he has spent much of the last two months insulting me rather than promoting this fight. Yes, I’ve faced a lot of challenges in my li
