‘Take off the gloves and fight’: McGregor reacts to viral Canelo-De La Hoya confrontation

Conor McGregor wants Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya to settle their differences in the ring.

The two boxing icons became involved in a heated confrontation late on Wednesday ahead of Canelo’s fight this weekend in Las Vegas against his unbeaten Mexican compatriot Jaime Manguia after De La Hoya — who previously acted as Canelo’s promoter — took umbrage to some comments issued by Canelo in the buildup.

And if their relationship sours further, newly-minted Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship co-owner McGregor invited the pair to settle their differences in the BKFC ring.

“I’d love these two go at it Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Take off the gloves and fight, bitch!” McGreg

Canelo Alvarez goes off on ‘f*cking p*ssy’ Oscar De La Hoya, separated mid-press conference

Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya had to be separated by security at Wednesday’s press conference for Alvarez’s title fight against Jaime Munguia.

De La Hoya, who promotes Munguia under Golden Boy, took several shots at Alvarez during his introductory speech at their pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas, claiming that Alvarez was built by Golden Boy and that he’s responsible for his rise in boxing – something Alvarez didn’t take kindly.

“You don’t feel what you’re saying, motherf*cker,” Alvarez told his former promoter. “You have to read it. They write it for you. They write it for you, motherf*cker. They have to write for him what he’s going to say to this f*cking p*ssy. You don’t write anything, you idiot.

“You don’t do sh*t. You’re a dumbass, that’s what you are. You’re a dumbass. There’s peo

Let’s take a closer look at what we learned from Alvarez’s fourth defense of his undisputed super middleweight championship.

1. Giving Alvarez extra motivation to be great rarely ends well

Despite the droning criticism from those claiming he’s ducking David Benavidez to the heated verbal spats with ex-promoter Oscar De La Hoya during fight week, Alvarez once again found a way to channel his emotions into surgical focus. The Mexican icon fielded the early

LAS VEGAS — The boisterous, surprising support for Jaime Munguia was swiftly extinguished with a patented Canelo Alvarez combination on Saturday, a left hook followed by a right uppercut that planted the challenger on the canvas for the first knockdown of his 44-fight career.

Alvarez, boxing’s top star, continued to build momentum after that fourth-round knockdown and won the fight with his cleaner, sharper, harder shots to retain his undisputed super middleweight championship in an all-Mexican battle on Cinco de Mayo weekend before 17,492 at T-Mobile Arena.

Alvarez’s fourth successful defense of his four 168-pound titles was made official via scores of 115-113, 117-110 and 116-111. ESPN scored it 118-109. This was the third consecutive fight that Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) scored a knockdown. He also dropped Jermell Charlo and John Ryder in decision wins last year.

“I’m very proud that all the Mexicans are here watching us,” Alvarez, ESPN’s No. 4 pound-for-pound boxer, said. “… He’s a great fighter. He’s strong, he’s smart. … But he’s a little slow. I can see every punch. Sometimes he got me because I get so confident. … I did really good and I feel proud about it. … I’m the best fighter right now for sure.”

Munguia, the former junior middleweight titleholder, was competing on the elite level of the sport for the first time. And he no doubt acquitted himself well. The 27-year-old from Tijuana fought with passion and showed an improved jab in his second fight with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.

The pressure and aggression of Munguia was eff
